Putting the excite in plebiscite
At Essence we relish the difficult tasks. And trying to get Europe' s citizens more excited about an EU election was right up there with the best of them. But Google asked us to do just that. So we put together a YouTube Channel called Questions for Europe.
Developed with Euronews, it contained a clever gadget. This allowed Euronews to upload content. But it also allowed the users to submit their feedback videos too. As the name of the channel suggests, there were election-related questions as well. Users could enter their vote and see how their opinions matched those of other European voters. All in all, it was a novel way of using new media to enliven political debate.
Our next project is a gadget that gets politicians to listen.
