Creating the right environment for
citoyens journalists
LeMonde is one of France's most prestigious news sources. They wanted to give non professional journalists the opportunity to highlight environmental issues. It would be a genuine contest, complete with judges and prizes.
We knew from experience how simplicity and accessibility would be key. So we designed a YouTube Channel and gadget that would allow citizen journalists to upload their filmed pieces. These would then appear on a gallery where everyone could view them and vote for their favourites. Judges at LeMonde selected a winner from the best pieces. The competition was a huge success. The site attracted more than 6 million visits. It gave a platform to some very important environmental messages. And it proved you can't run a contest without a well-designed gadget.
