Inspiring the inbox
The 'e' in email doesn't stand for excitement. Not these days. It's too familiar. Too ordinary. So when Google asked us to promote Gmail by getting users to sign up their friends, we sensed a few late nights. Then we thought that, as emails reflect the mood of their sender, we'd give Gmail users a little present to help the communication process along.
A series of hand-drawn characters by artist Edward Monkton did the trick. They were fun, quirky, and reflected every kind of emotion. With the aid of a clever Gadget designed by us, users could attach them to their HTML emails and cheer their friends up. It's the simple ideas that work best.
