The number one tourist destination for the French is...you’ve guessed it...France. And in Google’s continued effort to promote local searches through their Google Maps, we were asked to create a maps mash up that gave users a unique approach to their holiday search.
Working in partnership with Routard.com we used the latest Google technology called KML (Keyhole Markup Language) which enabled us to position distinctive touristic landmarks over a Google map of France. The tool we built allows users to explore key landmarks in France organised in 4 different categories; monuments, leisure, nature and popular touristic areas broken down by region. In total, that’s more than 3,000 pins that we were able to display on a map. The two month project encompassed all arenas of the agency, from creative and design and build to media planning which involved a campaign to drive qualified traffic to the tool. All of this allowed us to become fully involved in the projects development.
Our main brief was to get the users excited and engaged by giving them an altogether different Google experience. If you take a step through and view the map you will see that we have achieved just that. Since the campaign went live on June 2nd we have seen an explosive increase in traffic to the site, we definitely feel a sense of pride in this fact. Google Maps is now a relevant tool that is seamless, effortless and engaging.
Google Maps is evolving, be a part of it.
